Green Up Your School Canteen
25th Feb 2020
Canteens are a major source of litter in schools. Divert waste from landfill by switching to BioPak takeaway packaging, and use the opportunity to teach kids about sustainability.
Why Green Your Canteen?
School canteens and cafeterias are a major source of litter. School cafeterias should, like other areas of the school reflect the school's educational goals and complement student learning. They are an opportunity for your school to demonstrate that you are mindful of the environmental impact you are having. Good practices are formed early on. Teach kids to respect nature and be mindful of the waste they create in primary and secondary school, and perhaps as adults they will be more sustainability minded.
Good for Health
Reducing pre-packaged food in canteens can be good for healthy kids, too. Using BioPak in your school cafeterias is not only good for the planet—it's good for the children's health, too. By ditching pies and fast food wrapped in traditional plastic, and instead making food onsite, you are ensuring kids are eating good food which will stimulate their bodies and mind.
And Compost!
Provide residential compost buckets for waste. Provide residential-sized compost buckets to allow the children to dispose responsibly of their packaging, and teach them about how composting works in the same way that they might learn about recycling. Any excuse for an educational activity!
