Switching to BioPak makes a difference

You can make a difference – in your plastic consumption, but also in your greenhouse gas emissions. All BioPak products are carbon neutral, which means any emissions that can’t be reduced are offset through planting trees or funding renewable energy.

How much impact is your business having by switching to BioPak?

Cafes

A typical cafe can offset approximately 15 tonnes of carbon in a year by switching to BioPak.

A cafe that uses 100,000 coffee cups and lids, takeaway containers, and cutlery will, by switching to BioPak:

  • Create and offset 15 tonnes of carbon, equivalent to driving a new car around the world once
  • Avoid 5 tonnes of plastic being produced, and the 4,900 litres of crude oil needed to make it

By diverting their packaging from landfill, they can also create 4 tonnes of compost, which avoids 8 tonnes of carbon being released into the atmosphere.

Music festivals

Music festivals can offset the amount of carbon equivalent to driving around the world twice, in one night, by switching to BioPak.

A music festival that uses 100,000 cups in one night can, if they switch to BioPak:

  • Create and offset 23 tonnes of carbon, equivalent to driving a new car around the world twice
  • Avoid 7 tonnes of plastic being produced, and the 6,860 litres of crude oil needed to make it

In addition, by diverting their packaging from landfill, they can create 5 tonnes of compost, which avoids 12 tonnes of carbon being released into the atmosphere.

Fruit and vegetable producers

By switching to compostable produce trays, fruit and vegetable producers can avoid over 5 million litres of crude oil.

A farm that uses 50 million fruit and vegetable produce trays a year to take their goods to supermarkets can, by changing to compostable trays:

  • Create and offset 992 tonnes of carbon, equivalent to driving a new car around the world 93 times
  • Avoid 545 tonnes of plastic being made, and the 5,344,100 litres of crude oil needed to make it

If these fruit and vegetable trays are then composted, the impact can be even greater: they will create 382 tonnes of compost, which avoids 627 tonnes of carbon being released into the atmosphere.

Fast food chains

If all packaging from a fast food chain in a year was composted, the chain could avoid 110 tonnes of carbon.

A fast food chain that sells 1 million meals using a burger box, chip cup, and large milkshake sup with lid and straw can, by switching to BioPak:

  • Create and offset 207 tonnes of carbon, equivalent to driving a new car around the world 19 times
  • Avoid 46 tonnes of plastic being produced, and the 27,468 litres of crude oil needed to make it

By composting this packaging, the fast food chain could also create 38 tonnes of compost, which avoids 110 tonnes of carbon being released into the atmosphere.

Coffee roasters

If coffee roasters switched to BioPak packaging, in one year they could offset enough carbon to drive a car around the world 5 times.

A coffee roaster that uses 1 million cups and lids per year could, by using compostable BioPak products:

  • Create and offset 53 tonnes of carbon, equivalent to driving a new car around the world 5 times
  • Avoid 4 tonnes of plastic being produced, and the 3,724 litres of crude oil needed to make it

And, by diverting this packaging from landfill, it could create 10 tonnes of compost, which avoids 30 tonnes of carbon being released into the atmosphere.
